Impossible Tasks

“…I have appointed you this day…”

Jeremiah 1:10

Has God ever called you to do a very difficult thing?  Maybe it involved confronting someone about a difficult matter, or making a move to an unknown place, speaking to a large group of people when you felt so inadequate, sharing your faith with a total stranger.  Maybe it was to help deliver someone who was enslaved, bound by a sinful addiction, or facing people who were against you, even trying to harm you.  Impossible tasks for the moment, but none the less tasks that had to be faced and acted upon.  It was much this way with the prophet Jeremiah. God chose him to speak to His people concerning their sin and call them to repentance.  God shared with Jeremiah the difficulties that he would face and even that the people would fight against him.  Jeremiah didn’t know how to speak and he was young and inexperienced.  Needless to say Jeremiah was feeling pretty overwhelmed over what God was commanding him to do.  His task, from a human perspective, seemed impossible.

What do you do when you are faced with an impossible task that God is giving you to do?  You accept God’s task as His divine appointment and with His divine appointment comes divine provision.  God will never, ever, call you to a task that He will not personally equip you for.  He will never call you to a task that He will not fully provide everything you will need.  God’s people on God’s assignment will never fail.  They will never be overcome by people nor hindered by obstacles, because God hath declared their success.  Our success is measured not by our abilities, but rather by the power of the living God.  It’s one thing to believe in the promises of God, but it’s another thing entirely to believe in the One who backs those promises.

The promises of God are only as great and powerful as He is and His power cannot be measured.  There is nothing outside His reach.  He has only to speak and it is done.  He has only to will for it to be so and it is settled for all eternity.  The stars in the heavens were hung there by His hand and they dare not fall until He releases them.  Nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible with God, if He wills it to be so.  He has always been and will always be.  Are you at the doorway of an impossible task that God has asked of you? This is His declaration to you, precious child of God.

Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
