Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day is an annual one-day holiday to give thanks at the close of the harvest season. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. In Canada, it is celebrated on the second Monday in October. The holiday has been celebrated every year since 1863. It is one of the major holidays of the year in the United States, and it kicks off the holiday season with Christmas and New Years Day. In addition to the United States and Canada, it is also celebrated in several other nations around the world including Germany, Japan, Liberia, and The Netherlands.

The first Thanksgiving in the United States was celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621 at Plymouth in modern-day Massachusetts. The Pilgrims celebrated the first harvest in the New World that would one day be known as the United States of America. The Pilgrims and Indians came together to celebrate this feast for three days. The colonists of New England would celebrate days of prayer to thank God for the end of droughts or military victories.
