Living Large

“I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise, nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to men of ability; for time and chance overtake them all.”

Ecclesiastes 9:11

Abraham Lincoln wrote;“In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.”.  President Lincoln was a man that understood hardship, challenges and great success.  He went from one end of the spectrum to the other in his life; coming from a poor family and fighting his way up the ladder of influence and knowledge.  He was dedicated to justice, hard work, honor, integrity and most of all to his beloved country.   Knowing that life is the greatest gift we could ever receive he embraced it as such determining until the very end to make every day count for what he believed in.     It’s not the time that God gives us that is important, it’s what we do with that gift of time and how we choose to invest it.    Shortly after I was saved I began to realize that I had absolutely nothing to offer God, no talents, no money, nothing, except one thing; my life.    How I choose to live it is my gift to Him.

Unfortunately we can’t put time in a bottle and time isn’t on our side!  In fact listen again as King Solomon speaks of time in Ecclesiastes 9:11 saying, “I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise, nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to men of ability; for timeand chance overtake them all.”   Time overtakes them all!  There is no question, upon reading between the lines to understand what Solomon was saying about time; it will overtake every effort, all our labors, our wealth, our wisdom, and abilities, our belongings, and every other thing before we even realize it.   Time will steal life away from us if we do not take steps to safeguard it.  Not that we can slow time, or go back in time to reclaim lost ground, but we can make the remainder profitable days for eternity.  We can choose today to invest wisely for tomorrow just by deciding where and how we will spend our time.

I believe that you and I can be wise women ensuring when we come to the end of our days that we have no regrets.   But there is only one way to do that; by making wise investments with our time, our resources, our energies and talents.  It’s not filling our lives with busyness but filling our lives with fruitful living, choosing the Kingdom of God over the kingdom of this world.  Say ‘yes’ to God in serving Him, loving others, spreading the Gospel, forgiving, giving, believing, praying, trusting, depending. These are all treasures that we can store up in Heaven. If we are not careful to guard our hearts and minds against such things then we will miss the life that God intended for us to have.   May we not squander our days on that which is earthly but burn them away for the glory of Heaven.
