The Gavel is Not Yours

"Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door."

James 5:9

How patient God has been with us every day of our life. He did not give to us what we deserved but instead He poured out love without conditions upon us. He’s always dealt with us in mercy and in grace; never in wrath even thought He had ever right to. We owe Him our undying gratitude for being so good, so patient and loving. He is worthy of all our praise simply for Who is alone, but even more so for what He has done for each and every one of us. Gratitude is becoming for the child of God and medicine to the soul to keep us spiritual healthy. It keeps us humble and aware of God’s goodness. Any time our focus is upon what others are doing or not doing we have become spiritually sick.

An attitude of gratitude will set a guard at the door of our mouth choosing carefully the words we speak. Any time we lose our appreciation for God’s goodness, we will lose our praise for Him and gain condemnation of others in the process. When we keep the goodness of God before us, the actions of others will not become a stumbling block. The only time I have ever found myself discouraged or unsettled in my walk or service to God has been when my eyes were on people. Our focus feeds our attitude. When our eyes are off of God our judgment will be upon people. Grumbling is a sign of a heart condition that can only be healed with a changed of focus.

When we forget what God has done for us then our gratitude will be lost. When we lose the heart of gratitude we should have for God, then we will lose the praise we should have for Him. A loss of praise will reward us with a grumbling tongue. How do you speak about others? What power are your words having upon others? When is the last time you expressed your gratitude for God to Him and before others? Our heart of love for God will spill over into our words about others.

Remember what God has done and speak words of praise.
