Times of Darkness
“…when I am weak, then I am strong…”
II Corinthians 12:10
Charles Cowman, missionary to the orient, shared this story with a missionary who was tempted to leave his flock.
“An American traveler was in Italy when one day he stood watching a lumberman, who, as the logs floated down the swift mountain stream, occasionally jabbed his hook into one and drew it carefully aside. He said to the man, “Why do you pick out these few, for they all look alike?” The lumberman replied, “They all look alike, but they are not all alike. The logs I let pass are grown in the valley where they have been protected all their lives. Their grain is coarse; they are good only for lumber. But, these logs grew on the mountains. From the time they were sprouts and saplings they were lashed and buffeted by the winds, and so they grew strong with fine grain. These are saved for choice work, they are not lumber.”
It is for that choice work that the Lord has for us to do that will bring the strong winds of trials lashing upon our lives. From the time we are but saplings in His eyes, He lovingly has sent those storms to make us strong and powerful instruments for the work He has purposed for us to do. Charles Cowman went on further to tell his beloved Missionary friend:
“In times of darkness be concerned with two things:
First, is my consecration entire?
Second, do I this moment trust in Jesus as my perfect Savior and sanctifier.
If you can answer unreservedly yes, then all is well.”
I surrender my all to Him, He will not fail me
