What Does God Look Like To You?

“…while My glory is passing by…”

Exodus 33:22

A second grade teacher had given her class a drawing assignment.  They were told they could draw anything they wanted to.  As the teacher was passing through the room looking at the children’s drawings in progress she stopped at a little girls desk who was very intently drawing every detail of her masterpiece with purpose and full of excitement.  The teacher, very curious to know, leaned over and asked the little artist what she was drawing.  The little girl quickly replied, “I’m drawing a picture of God.”.  The teacher, startled at first, explained to the little girl that she couldn’t possibly be drawing God because no one knew what He looked like.  With no hesitation the girl kept coloring as she replied, “Well, they will in a minute.”

Have you ever wondered what God looks like?  Have you ever just ached so deep within to get a glimpse of His holy face?  Moses did.  Moses asked the Lord in Exodus Chapter 33:18, “I pray Thee, show me Thy glory!”  Moses was desperate to see God.  Moses knew that he needed to see God for who He really was, and not just what he thought God was like.  Are you satisfied with your view of God?  Moses got a new view of God that day because he cried out to God to see His glory.  So often it’s not God’s glory that we want to see.  Have you prayed about a situation, and as you were making your request you rushed through the words, “I pray you get the glory in this Lord?”   Most of the time, deep inside, we don’t want to see God’s glory at all but only to get the answers we want.

May you cry out for a true picture of God, a cry for His glory.  May you pray, as Moses did, no matter the situation you are facing right now, “I pray Thee, show me Thy glory.”  These are pure words that speak right to the very heart of God.

To love You all the more deeply.
