Amazing Grace
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
The unmerited favor of God confounds the most brilliant of minds, and scholars search in desperation for adequate words that can shed light on its meaning. How can we ever understand or even hope to grasp the depth of the meaning of God’s grace? Is it any wonder that the only word found in the English vocabulary to describe God’s grace is the word, Amazing! When speaking, or singing of the boundless, endless grace of God, no other word will suffice. Grace is God showing us favor when we didn’t deserve it, and pouring it forth abundantly knowing we could never earn it. When there was a great gulf of sin between God and man, that grace came and crossed the line to retrieve him and bring him back to God. Grace did not look at man with blinded eye, but with eye unveiled, seeing him fully just as he is.
Grace never makes excuses, but only revelations of His enduring love and mercy. For you, precious child of God, are saved only by grace and grace alone. It is not of yourself. Grace is moved by love and upheld by mercy. We can’t explain it, but we can embrace it, and sing His praises for all eternity, for the out pouring of it upon our lives. How amazing is the rich, boundless grace of God. Grace will keep you in sickness, it will strengthen you in sorrow, it will steady you through winds of change, it will hold you when loneliness overshadows your mind, and it will stay you even in the face of death, and bring you safely into the arms of God.
Grace only gives and expects nothing in return, nor does it keep an account of the deeds it has done. Grace is a servant that will only seek your highest and ultimate good. It is the expression of God’s love to you, so is it any wonder that we stand in utter and sheer amazement, lacking the words to express our hearts gratitude. For all eternity God will display His glory upon His trophies of Grace, and the world will cry out the only word that they can find; “Amazing!” And truly it is amazing.
Grace never moves us to act on our own, for it is moved only by the heart of God. Grace will not give approval to sin, for it is only approved by God. Grace will never for one moment honor itself, for it is the trophy in the hand of God. Grace understands that it can never be earned or bought for it is God’s gift to all mankind.
I stand in awe of You Father, and I tremble in wonder at Your rich and boundless grace.
