The Language of Eternity

“The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,And his tongue speaks justice.”

Psalm 37:30

What influence words can have upon another’s life, in a community, a church and even in the world.  Words live long after we are gone, continuing to leave their marks upon the lives of people.  Words have the ability to tear down in only a few minutes, what may have taken years to build.  Communication is a very destructive force when it sets out to be.  In a sense, our conversations, the words we use, have eternity within them because once they are spoken, released into the atmosphere, they can never be retrieved.  They have the power to leave eternal impressions upon the hearers. With such a gift of influence comes responsibility.  Great power begets great accountability. Jesus spoke of this truth in Matthew 12:36 when He said, "And I say to you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render and account for it in the day of judgment.”  Careless words are those moments when no thought of the influence was given before speaking, speaking without care or concern.

This alone should prompt us to put a guard before our lips.  A wise woman will hear her words internally before she speaks them.  Mother Teresa said, unless you can improve the silence, don’t speak.  Hard words to hear.  There is nothing more beautiful than a woman who guards her words and a woman whose mouth is filled with kindness.  It is this woman who will improve another’s silence adding good to the hearer and the environment in which she speaks.  This is the soul that pleases God and stands confidently when she accesses her conversations later.  Her words are like drops of living water refreshing people’s lives and leaving them stronger, better, hopeful, and encouraged in the Lord.

What words do you use?  How do you sound in the ear of another?  Have you ever taken the time to listen to what you are saying and to hear yourself before others do?  One of the best investments we can ever make in ourselves is the conscience decision to hear before we speak; to hear ourselves first!  Take time to understand your words and the power they have to institute change in the world, in the life of another either for good or for bad.  Be a woman who gives life through her language knowing that your words will follow you into Heaven.

Speak the language of Heaven and give hope to the world.
