No Excuses
"…Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?"
There is no greater dishonor to God than when we retreat behind our limitations and weaknesses excusing ourselves from serving Him in the manner in which He has called us to. God calls not the strong one to do His work but rather He calls the weak to do the work of the strong One. He confounds the wise by taking the ordinary and doing the extraordinary. He called a shepherd boy and made him a king, the youngest and smallest to stand before giants. Isaiah preached naked, John the Baptist was a hairy wild looking man, Mary was an unknown young maiden, Esther was a Hebrew orphan, Rahab was a harlot, Elisha was a farmer, Jeremiah was a youth, Hosea married a harlot, Paul was a persecutor of the Church, Peter was a fisherman, a donkey was used as God’s mouthpiece to save, the city of Samaria was won for Jesus through the life of a divorced woman (5xs!) who was living in immorality. Stephen waited tables and Jesus, the Savior of the world was the son of a carpenter born in a lowly manger, a foot washer to His disciples -Only God, beloved, only God.
When God called Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, Moses’ first response was; "Who am I that I should go?". Then he followed suit with three more excuses; How will I answer the questions they have for me concerning you; how will they ever believe it is You who sent me and the big one, I am not an eloquent speaker in fact I’m slow at speaking! He follows all that up with a final plea asking the LORD to send someone else instead of him! In fact, Moses was begging the LORD to send anyone but him. Can you identify with Moses? I can. When He calls, we have but one answer; "Here I am Lord, what would thou have thy servant to do?" Like He told Moses, I made you so don’t tell me of your weaknesses. The Apostle Paul spoke concerning his weaknesses to the Lord and the response to him was; …"My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." (II Corinthians 12:9) This is why the Lord seeks out the weak, beloved, because it is in the weak vessels that He can perfect His power and display His unfathomable glory.
Who can fathom His ways; who can question His doings? Who are any of us that we should be an instrument in the hand of the Almighty? But who are any of us to question when He does? He is a God who works in such a way that only He can get the glory for it. The supernatural working of God will always lower man and elevate Him…always.
Keep me weak that you may be strong.
