Pearls of Grace - December 24

December 24

Oh Holy Night

"…Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

Luke 2:10 & 11

The stillness of night was crowned with the brilliance of the most magnificent star the earth had ever known. The darkness seemed to hide itself in the face of its presence adorning the canopy of the heavens above. The air was filled with expectancy and joy. Creation had been longing for this awaited night for thousands of years, waiting for the mountains to shake resounding forth with the voice of the Arch Angel, "He has come!" Did the world know that Holiness had come down and their lives would be forever changed? Was there a stirring so powerful in the air, welcoming His arrival that men would find no sleep this night? Could their soul comprehend that salvation had come, fear of death would be vanquished forever?

This was no ordinary night. It was thousands of years in the making, and all of Heaven had been preparing for its arrival. This night would be so costly, so painful in its course that all of Heaven would weep. The tears of Heaven shed over the loss of its beloved King, the very light of Heaven. What anticipation enthralled the angelic host as they peered with unveiled eye the very Son of God, mighty and powerful to save, their God and Creator, now lying helpless in the arms of man, wrapped in the garments of the poor and lowly. The treasure of Heaven, holy and pure, now given over to sinful man, understanding fully what they would do to Him. The greatest price for Heaven, for God, was paid on this night, beloved, for once the plan of redemption was set in motion, the Son would not rest until He could proclaim; "It is finished!"

The Father knew that the Son would not turn back from fulfilling His will, accomplishing His plan. He would finish His course. God paid the price for the redemption of man long before the cross of Calvary was raised to nail His beloved Son upon its beams. It was paid here, precious child of God, on this most holy night, the night of the birth of His Son, Jesus. God finishes what He begins and this night is the stamp of His faithfulness upon a sinful world. He has come, and the world would and will never be the same, nor would Heaven. This night would forge the key that would allow sinful man to enter Holy gates. Will your soul stir within you this night at the birth of your Savior, knowing for you He came? Will your pillow embrace the tears flowing from a grateful heart, as it remembers the cost that all of Heaven paid for you? This is a most Holy Night –the night God was cradled in a lowly manger that He might cradle you in the grace of Heaven.

I bow my head in holy wonder at the king who came for me.
