The Quietness of God’s Love
"The LORD your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy."
A friend of mine shared an experience of hers with me: "Yesterday, I heard a loud thunk on the sliding glass doors. A little bird had flown into the glass and had knocked himself out. I picked him up and for several minutes I rubbed his little head and stroked him gently. His little beak was open and I even tried to close it. His eyes were open, but he never even tried to move. A couple of times I quickly lifted my hand, trying to get him to fly off, but he just held on. One little claw was holding onto my hand so tight that I had to take my fingers and pry his little foot off. Finally, he regained his strength and flew off into the wild blue yonder. I was thinking, as I was stroking his little head how that, under ordinary circumstances, I could not possibly touch him or even get him to come near me. But, in his debilitation, he allowed me to love on him.
How like us that is...with God! We are so busy flitting around that we can’t come and be still in His hands. Many times, it is only when we are debilitated that we will be still long enough to allow our Father to really love on us. Why can’t we just come to Him all the time, crawl up in His great big hands (that measured the waters of the earth) and enjoy a love relationship with Him? We’ll find that He’s not trying to hurt us after all...He just wants to show us His great, awesome, wonderful heart of love!"

Only in the stillness can we receive the quietness of His love and know the tenderness of His touch. It’s those out of the ordinary moments that allow the heart of God to stoop down low so we can hear the beating of unchanging and unexplainable life coming from His nearness. Have you crashed and burned with a plan you had? Did you fall spiritually? Have you lost your way and don’t know how to regain your strength and courage to try again? Are you exhausted from the battle you’ve been fighting for so long? Maybe God has slowed you down or brought you to a complete halt altogether because He needs you to be still long enough to notice Him. Maybe He has sent you crashing head on into a rough roadblock in your life, one that you can’t recover from on your own just to show you Who He is. It’s in these vulnerable times when we are laid bare before God in all our weaknesses that we discover His strength.
I am utterly helpless Lord to rescue myself.
